Elections
- the Rotary Club of Dubuque holds elections prior to the end of the Calendar
year, usually in late November. A call for candidates is made prior to
this time, usually in September and October requesting that Rotarians
interested in seeking an office should place their name in nomination.
Generally, the club President oversees the recruitment of candidates and
promotes interest in the upcoming elections.
Each year the following
positions need to be filled during the elections:
- President-Elect-
this Rotarian will become President at the beginning of the new Rotary
year on July 1 of the following year. Traditionally, if the current
President needs to be absent from a meeting the President-Elect would
be asked to preside at the meeting. This gives the President-Elect excellent
training for when he or she becomes President in the future.
- Three Board
of Directors members - Each new Rotary Year (July 1) three Board
Members complete their term and three new Board Members are elected
to begin a new two-year term. Thus, out of the total of six Board members,
three are new each year. Thus, during the elections at the end of the
calendar year, six candidates are recruited from among the club membership
to compete in an election, which is conducted by secret ballot at a
regular meeting. The 3 candidates receiving the highest number of votes
are announced at the next regular meeting as the new Board members elect.
- Secretary
- Tradition indicates that most Rotary Club Secretaries serve for more
then one year. Upon being elected by the general membership, there is
no limit on the term of the Secretary. This same procedure is also true
for the club Treasurer.
Makeup of the board
