The Second Annual Fish Fly Folly!
It's time for the Second annual Rotary Club of Dubuque “Fish Fly Folly.” Dubuque 's largest service club is once again inviting tri-state residents to guess when the first “official” Fish Fly invasion hits the riverfront. For a $5 chance, the person with the time and date closest to the actual “invasion” will win a 50/50 jackpot. Liberty Bank has donated $500 to seed the project, and the grows with every $5 chance purchased. The official “invasion” time will be determined by the Dubuque Police Department and Dept. of Leisure Services when they turn out the lights along the river front to discourage the swarms of smelly creatures who are attracted to lights. Entry deadline is June 1st. Chances are available from any Rotary Club member or at all three Dubuque Hy-Vee Store service counters and at Radio Dubuque, 8th & Bluff.   The winner also gets a case of Stone Cliff Wine with the collectible “Fish Fly Wine” label.   All proceeds benefit Dubuque's Crescent Community Health Center.  More information: Paul Hemmer, Project chairman 563-690-0830 dbqpaul@mchsi.com

April 29

April 29, 2008 Our visitors from India helped make this meeting a tremendously good time. Above is a flag exchange (one of several, actually). The visitors were absolutely charming, and we obviously made a lasting impression on our guests because they want to return to Dubuque before they leave the US for India at the conclusion of the North American tour. The meeting began with an offical proclamation delivered personally by our mayor, Roy Buol. Below, the mayor receives a special flag pin from the leader of the Indian delegation.

    The Membership Roster is Online!
We are testing a new format for our membership listing. Normally a printed membership book would cost the club several hundred dollars. With an online listing, the content never becomes obsolete because it can continually be updated. Members can print the list from their home computer if they want a hard copy. Give it a look.

Dubuque Rotary Club Grant Requests (C indicates Contingency funding). The Community and Human Development Committee has revamped the request form that people fill out to apply for finances. To download the Microsoft Word file. Click here. Linked to this website is the important grant request summary document (in Microsoft Word completed by people in our community representing organizations who seek funding from Rotary Club. The document is quite thick but interesting since it requests over $50,000 from our organization. This is good news, actually, because it gives us the opportunity to set a goal for our fund raising efforts. After all, this is what we are all about.... raising money for humanitarian projects among other things. Here is the committee who must sift through the requests and decide what we will fund.
